Ladies kick off league with victory

ANNAN Athletic Ladies and Girls kicked off their league campaign on Sunday with a well earned 4-0 victory against Benburb at New Tinto Park. This game was the first ever meeting between the two sides. And the first half was a competitive affair with Annan creating several chances with good link up play across the pitch. Goals from Rhian Williams and Grace Thorburn saw the ladies go in at half time 2-0 up. Athletic carried the momentum into the second half and a double from Jessica Wallace secured the win. It was a really good performance from the full team as they got off to a winning start. Grace Thorburn, pictured, was player of the match. The Black and Golds are back at home on Sunday as they take on Grampian for the first knock out round of the League Cup.

Meanwhile, Gretna 2008 Ladies and Girls kicked off league proceedings with a 1-1 draw at home to Harmony Row.
