DUMFRIES Ladies 2s claimed a narrow 1-0 win at home to Stepps 2s at the end of last month. Right from the first whistle, Dumfries were on the offensive, testing the Stepps’ midfield and defence, but not quite able to get that opening in front of goal. As the game progressed, Dumfries were winning penalty corners, but had to defend some Stepps penalty corners. Angie B fired in a solid shot into the left corner of the goal to make it 1-0 to Dumfries. Overall it was a good squad result for Dumfries 2s with a great effort made by all. Elsewhere, on the same date, Dumfries Men’s 2s travelled to face Giffnock Men’s 2s. The game started very poorly for the Dumfries team with them conceding two quick goals. With a few discussions on the sidelines the Dumfries team started quarter two a lot better. And a goal came when Iain took the ball into the D and passed to an unmarked Gordon who scored. Dumfries had a bit more pressure but unfortunately conceded two further goals to end the quarter 4-1 down. Dumfries again had a bright start in the third with John taking a quick free hit to Iain who dribbled into the D and slotted the ball into the bottom left of the goal. Unfortunately, that was the last scoring for the Dumfries team who conceded another four goals over the last two quarters of the game.

Meanwhile, with Storm Amy in full-swing, last Saturday’s games were postponed. However, on Sunday Dumfries Men’s 1s travelled to play Watsonians Men’s 4s at Peffermill, Edinburgh in Round One of the Reserve Cup. Dumfries suffered a 5-1 defeat.
