Keep unbeaten run going!
ANNAN Athletic boss Wullie Gibson hopes to keep his side’s unbeaten start to the League Two campaign up this weekend. The Galabankies welcome Dumbarton – who were docked five points at the start of the season due to going into administration – on the back of two spirited away performances resulted in back-to-back draws for Gibson’s troops. The Black and Golds were seconds away from victory against Edinburgh City until they conceded a 98th minute penalty. The Citizens scored to make it 2-2 and deny Annan and double scorer Aidan Smith. On the match, Gibson said: “We were disappointed with the result because we got ourselves into a really good position. “We simply didn’t get going in the second half. We knew that Edinburgh were going to come right at us as they had nothing to lose. “I felt we were on the end of a poor decision. The referee also found seven or eight minutes to add on at the end which I’m not sure where he’s got that from either. “But I’ll always look at us first and we need to see the game out better. “I’m sure we’ll improve on that on Saturday. It was frustrating against Edinburgh but we’ve still not lost in the league which is a positive.” Meanwhile, Queen of the South winger Kai Kennedy reckons the Doonhamers’ attacking prowess will only improve as relationships develop and other players return from injury. Against Peterhead, Kennedy formed a menacing forward line alongside Kurtis Guthrie and Liam Smith, the front three constantly caused problems. Kennedy said: “It’s brilliant (playing with Guthrie and Smith). You can see the quality that Kurtis brings and we all know (Smith) is a wizard – he must be the most fouled player in the league!” Refusing to get carried away with the result, Kennedy added that there was still a long way to go in a very tough League One starting against Stenny on Saturday. He said: “Today’s only a win, it’s a long season. In football you don’t get too high or too low. “It will be a big training week for us this week. We all know how hard Stenhousemuir away is. “In this league anyone can beat anyone, the results today show that, it’s about who can get a bit of consistency.”
