It’s second hand September

CAN you donate and help families across Dumfries and Galloway this month?

Dubbed ‘Second Hand September’ by Oxfam, a call has gone out for donations of furniture to help turn houses into homes.

And it is being back by Wheatley Homes South, the region’s largest social landlord.

The campaign fits with their own Home Comforts service, which collects and upcycles furniture and then distributes it to tenants in need.

The furniture is cleaned while white goods are PAT tested and any repairs made before being distributed to families.

Launched in Dumfries and Galloway in 2022, the service is delivered in partnership with SHAX in Dumfries, and the Community Reuse Shop in Stranraer.

Alan Glasgow, managing director of Wheatley Homes South, said:

“We hope that people across the region will support this scheme by donating unwanted furniture to help our tenants turn their house into a home.”
