It’s magic for Mikey!
The 24-year-old was calm and composed as he slotted home in the 93rd minute to help his side to a 1-0 League One victory at Palmerston Park.
His strike was the one real piece of quality on display last Saturday evening as Storm Amy dealt its final blows to the region.
The weather could be a reasonable excuse for the lacklustre performances from both teams over the 90 minutes.
But Hewitt’s goal made it all worth it for the Doonhamers who braved the weather as they headed for the exit gates on cloud nine.
A smiling Hewitt said: “It’s the best feeling in the world! I thought over the piece we deserved it. Off the back of some poor form, it was a great feeling to get three points.
“It probably wasn’t the best game to watch, to be honest. I think we were better in the first half, the second half was really scrappy. But, with the weather like it was, and it being against Alloa, which is always a tight game, it was going to come down to who could take their chances. Thankfully it was us.
“In training, especially Wednesday and Friday, we will do a lot of work on set plays, there’s a big emphasis on that.
“I scored an almost identical goal a couple of weeks ago against Hearts. It comes from a good ball in, and I’m delighted to score again.”
Victory against the Wasps brought a four game losing run to an end,
Hewitt added: “It (the losing run) was pretty tough but it didn’t affect us as much as maybe people from the outside looking in would’ve thought.
“There’s a lot of talent in the squad and we’re always confident we can go and get a result.
“We’re delighted to get back to winning ways.
“(The league) was really tight last year. Everybody’s a decent outfit this year and there’s big results going either way every week.
“We’ll just take it one game at a time and see where it takes us.”
The full back hopes Queens can start to put together a winning run, starting this Saturday away to Stranraer in the Challenge Cup.
He said: “Every game you go in to win. (The Stranraer game is) another opportunity to get three points in the cup and hopefully that can secure us qualification into the knockout round.”
