History-maker Josh!
DOONHAMERS Amateur Boxing Club’s Josh Hunter claimed his third Scottish title at the Boxing Scotland Elite Golden Gloves Finals.
He overcame Linktown’s Jaymie Swan in the 50kg Flyweight Final at Ravenscraig on Saturday, March 21.
Coach Anne Armstrong said: “Josh never had much luck at school and junior levels, always training and entering but never getting a fight.
“Four years ago it all started to come together. Josh was finally getting bouts. Not many, but some bouts.
“And his journey started to take off. Win after win. Then finally in 2024 he got his first Scottish title, following that up with three Box Cup wins.
“Then his second title came in 2025, and last month he did the dream: his third Scottish title.”
Anne added: “As his coach and mentor, for such a long time, we have become very close. He is like a son to me, I will always look out for him, like he will me. I’m proud of him, he deserves this accolade. He has turned into one of the most kindest, beautiful and caring young men I could possible ask for.
“His mum is proud, I’m proud, and I know his dad is looking down right now at his son, prouder than all of us.”
Speaking to Boxing Scotland, Josh said: “It feels absolutely unbelievable.
“It’s history, no one from Dumfries has ever won it three times in a row.”
