Hewitt’s delighted to be back
MIKEY Hewitt was delighted to help his team to victory against Dunfermline following his return from injury. The right full-back played 90 minutes for Queens on Tuesday night as they beat the Pars 4-3 to progress into the last 16 of the Challenge Cup. It was his first game in over eight weeks after he had broken his arm and wrist against Peterhead. Although in pain, the 25-year-old was unaware of the extent of his injury at that time and completed the game at the Balmoor Stadium. Speaking after Tuesday’s win, Hewitt said: “It feels really good, I just kind of had to build my fitness up in training over the last few weeks. “But I’d been doing a lot anyway, before coming back into full training. I felt ready to go back in tonight and I’m delighted with the win. I’m delighted to get back and put it all behind me. “It was Peterhead away on the 18th of October (when the injury happened), I didn’t obviously know at the time — but it was pretty sore!” Assistant manager Colin McMenamin welcomed Hewitt back into the fold. He said: “Mikey was excellent tonight, we know what he gives us. He’s been a big miss. “We were devastated for him when he got the news. He’s been back in training for the last week or two and it’s a big addition for the squad. “Luckily we’ve had Zander (MacKenzie) who’s filled in really well, and now it’s going to be a fight to see who’s playing on Saturday.”
