Harry's on a mission!

HARRY Cochrane is on a mission to get Queen of the South back into the Championship.

The midfielder suffered a painful relegation with the club to the third tier in his first season at Palmerston in 2022.

Now three years later, Cochrane is desperate to get the club back where he thinks they belong.

Cochrane, left, said: “I joined the club in the Championship and unfortunately we got relegated. Queens should be in the Championship, that’s where we deserve to be. There’s no reason why we can’t go and achieve that.

“This is my fourth season at the club and this is the first time I’ve been involved in the play-offs to try and get us back up.

“We’ve got the squad to do it and all the boys in the changing room believe we can do it. Hopefully come the end of the play-offs we’re back in the Championship.”

But the Dumfries outfit will have to do it the hard way after a goalless home draw with Cove Rangers in the first leg of the play-off semi final.

Cove sat back and frustrated the Doonhamers throughout the first leg at Palmerston. But Cochrane believes their opponents will open up in the second encounter at their home patch.

He added: “Cove came with a game plan in the first leg and got away with a draw. They made it hard for us and were compact.

“I don’t think they can do that again and sit in like they did at their own place, so we’ll have more space to play and hopefully that’s when our quality will come through.

“They frustrated us and tried to keep us quiet. It’s all still to play for.

“It’s there to be won for us on Saturday. If they do open up then that suits us.”

And gaffer Peter Murphy admits his side missed the opportunity to take a stranglehold of the tie but insists Saturday will be a different story.

He said: “It was a really tight contest. I was surprised with how Cove sat back but I think we pushed them back.

“We feel like it is an opportunity missed. Especially because it was a home match, and we’re really strong here.

“It’s only half time. I thought we deserved to score but it just wasn’t to be. Cove did have a couple of good counter attacks but our defence were absolutely outstanding. Jack Hannah and Matty Douglas were rocks.

“Cove will be a different animal on Saturday. If they attack us and open up spaces, it’ll suit our game.

“When Cove come out and play, they are a really good footballing side, but we can exploit the space.”
