Harriers tackle 3 Villages race
A STRONG group of Dumfries Harriers made the familiar trip down to Carlisle for the 3 Villages races, taking on the winding roads through Wetheral, Scotby and Cumwhinton. The five-mile route might be billed as undulating, but it still has a habit of biting back, and the Harriers handled it with the usual mix of grit, good humour and quiet determination. Tina Roscoe set the tone with a smooth 45:38, looking completely at home on the country lanes. Just behind her came a brilliant cluster of Harriers working together stride for stride, with Lynn Goodwin clocking 46:12 and Karrie Milroy a single second later, the pair practically inseparable all the way to the line. Helen Anderson kept the momentum rolling with a strong 46:23, while Christine Proudfoot delivered one of the standout runs of the day, crossing in 47:15 and taking a well-earned first place in the V70 category. Anna Dunlop followed with a composed 47:22, and rounding out the squad was Jane Lenza, who dug in deep and brought it home in 1:01:03, showing exactly the kind of resilience these races are all about. Over on the two-lap ten-mile course, the Harriers continued to shine. Alex Dingwall led the charge with a superb 1:16:38, handling the repeated climbs and twists with the kind of steady pacing that makes ten miles look almost civilised. Not far behind, Jacqui Hamilton delivered a strong and controlled 1:29:22, settling into her rhythm and holding it all the way back to Wetheral. And completing the trio was Megan Carson, who ran with real heart to finish in 1:30:59, proving once again that the longer distances suit her well. Quiet roads, rolling villages, and a course that rewards patience as much as power the Harriers handled it all with style. Another cracking day out down south, and another set of performances to be proud of.
