Great Scot!
SCOT Rough’s last minute winner away to Elgin City made it five victories in a row in all competitions for Stranraer.
The Blues claimed all three points at Borough Briggs in last Saturday’s League Two contest. They won 2-1 and leapfrogged their opponents into the fourth place play off spot.
Dom Plan cut inside and rifled the ball into the top right corner to put Stranraer ahead before half time.
Jack Murray equalised for City on the hour mark, heading home from a corner kick.
But, just when it looked like both sides would share the spoils, up stepped central defender Rough who prodded home from close range in added time.
Speaking after the match, manager Chris Aitken praised his entire squad for their efforts, however he stressed that they were not going to get carried away following recent results.
Aitken said: “I’m absolutely delighted. It’s been a tough week with three really tough games.
“To come here and get away with three points, we’re absolutely delighted.
“I thought in the first half we needed a wee bit more calmness on the ball, we got that and we had a wee bit of quality.
“In the first ten minutes of the second half I felt really comfortable. It was tough with the windy conditions, a lot of the balls were just going right through.
“Then we went and shot ourselves in the foot. We need to learn to stop passing the ball back (when we don’t need to). All of a sudden it’s 1-1.”
Aitken added: “I told them before the game how good the squad is. The squad’s been absolutely magnificent and I’ve used them all.
“Today I had to call on five of the subs to come on. And to get the goal in the last minute, I’m absolutely delighted.”
This Saturday the Blues welcome Dumbarton to Stair Park. And another tough test awaits as they look to continue the winning run.
Aitken said: “That’s us into the top four. That tells you we’re going in the right direction but we’re not getting carried away. We’ve got another tough game against Dumbarton.”
