Gordon launches care campaign

A GRETNA resident is leading a campaign to secure greater attention, support, and resources for specialist care workers across the South West of Scotland.

Gordon Davidson, pictured, who works at motorway services in Gretna, is calling on the Scottish Government to ensure that wider public awareness and support is delivered to those working for Dementia UK, Parkinson’s UK, and MND Scotland in Dumfries and Galloway. He said this week: “I want to massively encourage greater awareness for Admiral Nurses in particular. They provide vital support for families when they need it the most.

“I want to make sure that this becomes a top priority for decision-makers working in local and national governments.”

Admiral nurses are Dementia UK nurses who deliver free emotional, practical, and psychological support to individuals and families impacted by dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.

In a bid to highlight the importance of their collective work, Mr Davidson hopes to ensure that affected families across the South West of Scotland receive dedicated local and national support.

In May 2023, the Scottish Government and COSLA published the Dementia Strategy, a ten-year vision for change titled: ‘New dementia strategy for Scotland: Everyone’s Story’. This strategy sets out a shared vision for dementia in Scotland over the next decade.
