Goal feast for Athletic ladies

ANNAN Athletic Ladies stormed to an 8-3 SWFL South win against Newton Stewart at Galabank last Sunday.

Before the game Jemma Gallacher was presented with a signed shirt to mark her 150th appearance for the the Black and Golds. She becomes the first Annan Ladies player to reach this milestone.

Jemma is highly respected by her teammates and also plays a key role as a coach within the club’s youth setup.

The match started at a good pace, with both teams looking to start the scoring early on.

Newton ended upw finding the net first, but Annan responded well shortly after. Athletic then added another before the break to take the lead at half time.

The second half remained lively, and Annan’s passing and teamwork helped them create more chances in front of goal, adding to their tally in a strong team performance.

Phoebe Thorburn scored four and picked up the player of the match award, while Jess, Grace, Orla and Emily got a goal each.

Meanwhile, Gretna 2008 Ladies lost 4-0 away to Benburb.

With ten players, the visitors held on until late on in the contest when Benburb managed to score four.

This Sunday Gretna entertain Cumnock Juniors at Raydale Park.
