ANNAN Athletic secured their third win on the spin last Saturday as they beat regional rivals Stranraer 1-0 at Stair Park in difficult conditions. Keith Watson’s second half strike proved to be the difference between the two sides. Athletic boss Wullie Gibson said: “I am delighted to get the win in terrible conditions at Stair Park this afternoon. “In the first half we were pinned back due to the wind but we defended really well. “In the second half with the wind, I was slightly disappointed with the way we performed but we capitalised on a Stranraer mistake and it was a good finish from Keith Watson. “Disappointment then comes with injuries to Paul Smith (ankle and waiting to find out extend of damage) and Keith Watson with a bad cut to the nose which we couldn’t stop, so that meant with us down on numbers the need to use (assistant manager) Steven Bell for the latter part of the game. “Overall I’m delighted with the fight and attitude from the players to pick up a huge three points on the road.” The Black and Golds travel to Broadwood Stadium on Saturday to face Hamilton Accies in matchday five of the Challenge Cup league phase.
