Fundraiser launched for defender’s knee operation
AN online fundraiser has been set up by Gretna 2008 to help pay for knee surgery for defender Stuart Douglas.
The 29-year-old central defender, from Dumfries, suffered the injury towards the end of last year. And the Anvils have come together to support the player.
Explaining, the fundraiser description says: “The Gretna FC 2008 family is coming together to support one of our own — Stuart Douglas, a dedicated, hardworking, and talented player who has recently suffered a serious ACL injury.
“Following medical consultations, it has been confirmed that Stuart requires ACL reconstruction surgery.
“Unfortunately, due to exceptionally long NHS waiting times, this is not a viable option. To give Stuart the best possible chance of returning to football as soon as possible, we are hoping to support him in accessing private treatment. As many within football know, the costs involved can be significant.
“Stuart is a hugely valued member of Gretna FC 2008, both on and off the pitch. His commitment, positive attitude and love for the game are clear to everyone who knows him.
“We want to do everything we can to help him make a full recovery and return to the sport he loves.
“We are asking our community, supporters, friends, and extended football family to help support Stuart during this challenging time. “Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a genuine difference.
“Stuart has already shown incredible determination and, with the right support around him, we know he can overcome this setback and come back stronger.”
