Dumfries draw in the city
Clydesdale Western 4s 2 - 2 Dumfries Ladies 1s A SQUAD of 13 made the trip to Glasgow on Saturday March 7 to face Clydesdale Western 4s, with Lily Callander making her debut in goal for Dumfries and Vicky Johnstone making a welcome return to the side. The match began at a high tempo, with Clydesdale putting early pressure on the Dumfries defence in the first quarter. Despite some solid defending, the home side capitalised on two short corners to take a 2–0 lead. In the second, Dumfries began to settle into the game, adapting well to Clydesdale’s narrow style of play. The breakthrough came in the third quarter, with a well-worked team move. The ball started on the back left, moving from Morven to Eilidh, before being received by Bex, who struck a fantastic shot to bring the score back to 2–1. Dumfries continued to build momentum and soon found an equaliser. Bex delivered a pass across the D to Iona on the right, who played it back to Beth to score and level the game at 2–2. In the final quarter, Dumfries showed determination and composure to hold their ground, defending well and maintaining pressure until the final whistle. The match finished 2–2, with Vicky Johnstone awarded player of the match for her solid return to midfield. Last Saturday the team faced a challenging match at home to Ardrossan and fell to a 3-0 defeat. The visitors set a strong tone from the start. And their initial aggression led to three goals in the first quarter, putting Dumfries on the back foot early in the game. Despite the scoreline, Dumfries showed resilience in the second half, stepping up their game and dominating in terms of play. However, they were unable to find the back of the net, with several attempts narrowly missing the target. The match concluded with no further goals, leaving Dumfries with a loss despite their improved performance in the latter half of the game. Opposition player of the match was Beth McCall
