DUMFRIES curler Tia Laurie has grabbed a podium finish at the Worlds for Youth Olympic Champs in Canada. Debutant of the competition, Tia, joined by Aberdeen curler Ethan Brewster, won bronze at the Booster Juice World Junior Mixed Doubles Championships, beating out Denmark 10-7 for the medal. Just seven days prior, the Scottish duo claimed the win at the World Open Under-25 Mixed Doubles Championships in the Saville Community Sports Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the same ice where they would take bronze a week later. The title winning pair were edged out by Japan in the semi-finals, losing 6-5, which would be just their second defeat in 16 matches over the course of the two events. Before defeating Denmark for Bronze in the third-place playoff. Tia and Ethan were ahead 9-4 with two ends left to play, where Denmark showed great determination to score three at the seventh end, putting the pressure on late in the game. However, Tia dealt with the pressure magnificently and drew her stone around the guard onto the button, while Ethan swept it into position to secure Scotland’s win. The silverware is seemingly becoming a regular occurrence for the pair, as they both won gold medals at the Youth Olympic Games two years earlier in 2024. Where Tia won the mixed team finals, and Ethan became the mixed doubles champion.
