ANNAN Athletic made it three League Two draws on the spin last Saturday at Galabank following a 1-1 draw with Clyde.
The hosts made a flying start to the contest.
Timam Scott showed a great turn of pace to get in behind the Clyde defence. But Clyde keeper Jay Hogarth was quick off his line to deny the Queen’s Park loan man from an acute angle.
On seven minutes Annan striker Joel Mumbongo displayed great strength to win a corner.
Wullie Gibson’s curling delivery fell kindly for Aidan Smith inside the six yard box. And Annan’s SPFL club record goal scorer fired the ball home with his laces to give the Galabankies the lead.
Another good chance came following another corner. This time Scott took a touch on the edge of the area before blasting the ball inches over the bar.
Soon after that, a third effort from the 20-year-old flew wide of the upright.
And a fourth attempt, after Scott cut inside from the right, took a deflection before landing in Hogarth’s arms.
It was all Annan as Keith Watson’s looping header cracked the top of the crossbar.
On the cusp of halftime the home side were dealt a blow when Scott had to be substituted following a fierce challenge.
Clyde threatened early in the second period.
James Hilton’s free kick from the edge of the area forced a diving save from Charlie Albinson.
With 17 minutes remaining the visitors netted an equaliser.
Darren Hynes pounced upon a loose header to slot the ball home under Albinson.
Athletic sub Paul Smith almost made an instant impact for the Black and Golds.
He latched on to Gibson’s ball and took a touch past Hogarth who had tried to get there first.
His cross was cleared by the well positioned Thomas Robson.
At the other end it was Clyde’s turn.
Kyle Connell’s slaloming run resulted in a fierce drive that flashed wide of the Annan goal.
Despite a frantic ending, neither side produced a winner and both had to settle for a share of the spoils.
