Double awards joy for Queens
QUEEN of the South boss Peter Murphy and captain Matty Douglas have been recognised after a terrific festive period.
The Doonhamers boss has been named the Scottish League One Glen’s Manager of the Month after securing an unbeaten run for his side in December.
Queens scored ten out of a possible 12 points last month, with a 2-0 win over Alloa Athletic, a 1-0 victory against Montrose, a 4-1 win over Hamilton and a 1-1 draw with Cove Rangers.
The club will be hoping to continue their fine form into February, with fixtures to come against Kelty Hearts, East Fife and Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Murphy was quick to praise his coaching staff.
He said: "As always it’s an honour to be named Manager of the Month as it shows that we are doing something right.
"But I couldn’t do it all on my own so this award isn’t just for me it’s for my coaching staff and the players too.
"We had a good December so it’s about finding consistency and kicking on in the second half of the season.”
Colin Matthews, CEO of Glen’s owner the Loch Lomond Group, added: "Queen of the South has had a strong start to the season with December’s impressive results firmly establishing the club among the League One promotion contenders.
"Consistency, organisation and strong performances across the month have been clear to see, and Peter Murphy’s impact has been reflected in the club’s rise to third place.
"He is a deserving recipient of the Glen’s League One Manager of the Month award, and I extend my congratulations to him and everyone at Queen of the South."
Meanwhile, defender Matty Douglas scooped the player of the month award. He had a memorable December which included scoring an astonshing hat-trick against Hamilton Accies. [caption id="attachment_65713" align="alignnone" width="680"]
