D&G fourth most dangerous area in Scotland, new report states

DUMFRIES and Galloway is the fourth most dangerous area in Scot- land, according to a new report.

The round up uses official data from the Scottish Government Data Repository and ranks areas based on the number of crimes per 10,000 residents.

The report stated: “From chocolate box villages to the larger towns of Dumfries and Stranraer. That blend brings with it an inflated crime rate; the region sits fourth on our rankings of the most dangerous areas in Scotland, with an overall crime rate of 1184 crimes per 10,000 residents.

“Criminality in Dumfries and Galloway is on a worrying upward trend, with the latest year’s statistics more than 4 per cent higher than the previous year.

“It’s reflected in some notable in- creases across Scotland’s most prominent issues – road traffic offences (6,953 incidents), crimes of dishonesty (2,262 incidents) and crimes against society (2,111 incidents).”

Meanwhile the area of Scotland with the highest crime rate is Glasgow City, with an overall crime rate of 1,431 crimes per 10,000 residents.

Ranked second is Dundee City, where the overall crime rate was found to be 1,337 crimes per 10,000 residents.

And rounding out the top three West Dunbartonshire to the north-west of the Glasgow, with a crime rate of 1,247 crimes per 10,000 residents.

1. Glasgow City; 2. Dundee City; 3. West Dunbartonshire; 4. Dumfries and Galloway; 5. City of Edinburgh; 6. Aberdeen City; 7. North Lanarkshire; 8. North Ayrshire; 9. Renfrewshire; 10. East Ayrshire; 11. Inverclyde; 12. Fife; 13. Falkirk; 14. South Lanarkshire; 15. Argyll and Bute.
