A LONG distance cyclist has thanked the Dumfries and Galloway community for their support during her 300 mile July bike ride challenge for Cancer Research UK.

Yvonne Moore, from Dumfries, has cycled 235 in over two weeks, and is nearing the finish line.

So far, she has raised £400 with more sponsors expected to support the rising costs.

She said: “I never imagined doing so many miles as this over a few weeks, but this is a charity close to my heart as we all know someone who has survived or been lost to this terrible disease and I wanted to try and do it in their memory.”

Halfords in Dumfries was thanked for sponsoring the charity cycle, in particular Ian in the bike repair team for looking out for her during solo trips and fixing her chain during the Caerlaverock leg of her journey.

Riverside Bar and Restaurant in Dock Park was also praised for providing complimentary refreshments, and The Crichton NHS campus where she did her training, which also sponsored the cycle.

“It’s been a great journey so far, and lovely seeing so many beautiful parts of Dumfries and Galloway again by bike!” she added.
