NEWTON Stewart will play either Gretna FC 2008 or near neighbours Creetown in the final of the SCFA Challenge Cup. Zak Service, Joe McMillan and Aaron Drysdale got the goals for the Creesiders at Blairmount as they beat Stranraer 3-2 on Tuesday night and secured a shot at silverware. Leon Paton and Dylan Marshall were on target for the Blues. Newton’s opponents in the final will be confirmed tonight after Lowland League side Gretna and the Ferrytoun go head-to-head at Castle Cary Park. Last Saturday in the league Creetown lost 1-0 to Dalbeattie and Stranraer beat Newton 4-3, while Wigtown exited the Tweedie Cup at the quarter final stage after a 4-2 defeat at St Cuthbert Wanderers. This Saturday Newton Stewart travel to Lochmaben in the league; Stranraer host Wigtown in the Cree Lodge quarter final; and Creetown welcome Nithsdale for a first round Cree Lodge cup clash. And the fixtures keep on coming next week. On Monday night Creetown take on Newton Stewart at Castle Cary, 7.30 pm KO; on Tuesday Stranraer travel to Lochar in the quarter final of the Potts Cup at the NWCC, 8 pm KO; and on Wednesday, at 7.30 pm, Wigtown host Creetown at Trammondford.
