Captain Charlotte promotion hopes
QUEEN of the South Ladies skipper Charlotte Smith believes promotion is still possible for the Dumfries outfit. The Palmy side start their League One post-split fixtures away to Cambusdoon this Sunday (2 pm kick off). The league this campaign is incredibly tight with Queens – who sit fourth – just a few points off second spot. And the centre back has reflected on the season so far. She said: “This season is without a doubt the most competitive season we’ve ever had. “Overall it’s been a really good season but we’re disappointed sitting fourth at present, having had such a positive start. “Although we’ve had the least defeats, we’ve had a frustrating run of drawing games which has unfortunately lost us valuable points. “We’re excited for the post-split fixtures as we’re only four points off second place so we’re determined more than ever to get some big results. “We’ve had a few last minute wins, they’ve been the most memorable for me. “We’re such a close knit group and all so invested in the team doing well. “You can just see how much it means to everyone in moments like that, with all the players celebrating and the coaches jumping up and down, hugging each other on the sideline. It’s moments like that that make football worth it.” And Smith wants to finish as strongly as possible. She added: “I’d imagine that will be the focus for all the other teams also in the top six. “The league is so competitive and everyone is very capable of taking points from each other. I think there will be surprises to come yet. “Promotion is still well and truly within our reach so we’re going to give it absolutely everything we’ve got.”
