Lochmaben 1-1 Mid Annandale

IN an incident packed Annandale derby on Saturday, Lochmaben and Mids battled out a South of Scotland League draw, securing a point apiece.

The game started quietly enough until the first major action took place on ten minutes, with Lochmaben hitting the bar before the ball was cleared off the line.

Three minutes later the home side edged in front with a converted penalty by Jordan Atkinson after Robbie Carcu was adjudged to have tripped a home forward just inside the box.

However, the roof then fell in on Lochmaben when they lost Chris Newbould with a serious looking injury and then received two red cards.

Sam Henderson was shown a second yellow for dissent and Connor Graham was given his marching orders following a rash midfield tackle on Robbie Carcu.

All credit to the home side, however, as with their nine men they reorganised well, defended stoutly, and still managed to create the odd chance as they held onto their one goal advantage at half time.

The second half found the Mids toiling to get back into the match with too many misplaced passes and some wrong final ball decisions.

It took them until 70 minutes before Robbie Carcu restored parity with a strong surging run and shot.

For the last 20 minutes the Mids huffed and puffed but could not break through a well drilled Lochmaben backline and, despite the Lockerbie side having a strong penalty claim turned down in the last minute, the home side thoroughly deserved their point for a sterling rearguard action with nine men.

Although, the Mids can take solace in that they still sit seventh in the League, two points ahead of the Burgh.

Both sides are in action tonight.

All Lochmaben eyes are on their Alba Cup final fixture against Lochar Thistle at Raydale, kick off is at 8 pm.

Meanwhile, the Mids have a Cree Lodge quarter final cup tie away to Saint Cuthbert Wanderers, KO 7.45 pm.
