Burgh back to winning ways
LOCHMABEN returned to winning ways on Wednesday after a 4-2 home victory against Nithsdale Wanderers. Kieran Brown fired The Burgh ahead at Whitehills Park, but the visitors found the net twice to take a half time lead. However, the hosts came out determined in the second period. And a further goal from Brown, along with strikes from Denver Milligan and Connor Graham secured all three points. On Monday night Lochmaben exited the Cree Lodge Cup after losing 4-2 to Lochar Thistle. Tomorrow afternoon they travel to Nithsdale in the first round of the Tweedie Cup. The Mids travelled to Creetown on Wednesday evening for their penultimate South of Scotland League fixture. The match throughout was a stuffy, tough tackling encounter with chances few and far between. And the Mids went down 2-1 to the hosts at Castle Cary Park. It was the home side who edged in front on 20 minutes when their tricky winger scored with a clever lob. The Lockerbie side, with the strong wind and an astute tactical switch to the formation, came much more into the match at the start of the second period and, after 25 mins, it was no surprise when they equalised through Thomas Crooks who slotted home a defence splitting pass from Aaron Bell. The Mids now looked the more likely of the two outfits, so it was somewhat of a surprise when Creetown edged in front again with 15 minutes to go after a goalmouth scramble. Try as they might, the Mids just could not find a leveller. Last Saturday the Lockerbie side were beaten 4-1 away to Newton Stewart in the league. The lads head to New Abbey on Saturday to take on Abbey Vale in what is their final league match of the campaign.
