QUEEN of the South Ladies and Girls continued their impressive start to Barclay’s League One last Sunday with a 3-2 home win against St Mirren. The first real chance of the contest came for Queens when Holly Ovens rounded the keeper but was forced wide. At the other end, St Mirren played some good football and were a constant threat, particularly down the left. Queens broke again with Eve Crombie racing through but her tame effort was comfortably saved. And the hosts finally broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. A free kick from Jade Samping was met a yard out by Haylie Crosbie who bundled it into the net. St Mirren, however, equalised just three minutes later. The forward controlled by the forward and a finished well into the bottom corner. The visitors continued to play better football and in the 42nd minute a clever through ball found the striker who finished from close range to give her side the lead. Within six minutes of the restart it was 2-2 when another smart delivery from Jade was met by halftime substitute Charlotte Bryden who made a good run across the keeper to direct the ball home. The home team were on the front foot after that as they searched for a winner. After winning a free kick on the edge of the area, Charlotte stepped up to curl the ball high into the net to give QOS the lead with 15 minutes left to play. St Mirren tried to rally but the home side managed to see the game out comfortably. Player of the match went to Haylie Crosbie. Queens are next in action on Sunday October 12 away to Westdyke Ladies.
