DUMFRIES curler Ross Whyte marked his World Championship debut with a bronze medal. Whyte’s rink – including Shire’s Euan Kyle, Robin Brydone, Craig Waddell and alternate Duncan McFadzean – beat hosts United States 11-6 in the bronze medal contest. Whyte, pictured left, and the team bounced back from their semi-final defeat by Canada to claim a medal. The Scots had reeled off ten successive wins to finish the round-robin stage in second place before losing a tense semi-final to Canada. Whyte said: “The other three set me up at pretty much every end and I had a couple that didn’t quite go my way and didn’t play as well as I was hoping I would, but the boys kept doing their thing and left me enough chances to get over the line, so, it feels great to have won that bronze medal. “It shows we are a strong unit and ready to give it our all at any point and it was nice to get our first chance at this as the playing team. “That experience is going to be huge going forward and hopefully that carries on and allows us to get more opportunities to go out there and be Team Scotland and do the nation proud.”
