CENTRAL defender Aaron Muirhead kicked off his professional career at Annan Athletic when he joined as an 18-year-old in 2008. He spent four years with the club, after joining from Ayr United’s youth academy, and made over 100 appearances. Thirteen years later, following spells at Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Ayr United and Arbroath, he is set for a return to Galabank this summer after signing a pre-contract. The 35-year-old, from Dumfries, will finish the current campaign with Arbroath, where he won League One last season. Muirhead said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Annan after a long time away. “It’s the club where I made my senior breakthrough, so I’m really excited to be going back. "I feel it was always going to happen and, after a few years of Wullie trying to sign me, I feel that now is the right time to come back. “I hope I can use my experience of playing over 500 games, winning leagues and challenging at the top end of the championship and pass that on to the younger lads in the team, both on and off the park.” Athletic manager Wullie Gibson added: “Aaron is someone I know well. He’s a good leader on and off the pitch, quite versatile and has a lot of experience. "He will not only add quality but aggression too, which is important as I think we’ve lacked that at times this season.”
