Awards joy for boxing club

DOONHAMERS Amateur Boxing Club had a great time at the JATV Scottish Boxing Awards in Glasgow and returned home with three awards.

The event was hosted by MC Craig Stephens, with 30 different awards presented during the evening.

And the Dumfries club returned home with three of them.

Coach Anne Armstrong was named Olympic Style Boxing Coach of The Year for 2023, while the club were winners of the Community Champion Award.

And in The People’s Choice Award for male and female young boxers, the Doonhamer’s Blossom Weir came home with the top prize.

Anne said: “This is a massive success for our amateur club at this year’s awards. To win not one but three awards is just amazing for our club and town.

“The award categories had over 26,000 votes this year, which smashed last year’s total of 17,000.

“Personally for myself to win coach of the year as a female only coach was the best feeling. Twenty years later I have finally got some recognition for all the years I have dedicated to this sport.

“The community champion award was another great achievement for the club and my Armstrong Angel Trust. The trust only exists because of the Doonhamers Boxing Club.

“The awards finished what has been an absolutely brilliant season for the Doonhamers Club.”

The club and committee members would like to thank everyone involved and say they hope to have another brilliant year of success.
