Award named in memory of Burgh lad Charlie
A NEW FOOTBALL award has been announced and it has been named in memory of Lochmaben's Charlie Watson, above. Charlie passed away at age of 20 in June after he was diagnosed with stage four cancer in August last year. The Threave Rovers footballer heroically still played the sport whilst receiving gruelling treatment for his cancer. And now, The Official Catchup – the voice of Scottish non-league football – has revealed a new award called the 'CW04 Young Player of the Month'. They said: "With the blessing of Charlie Watson's mum, Amanda, the Official Catchup are honoured to announce a new Young Player of the Month award for the upcoming season. "Charlie was one of our own, more than a player, he inspired everyone through his brave battle, and his loss had a profound effect on Scottish football and beyond. "We are proud that we can honour his memory through this award, which we intend to be open to young players at all tiers of the pyramid through nomination." Charlie's fight against cancer has raised over £70,000 for research.
