A YOUNG Dumfries gymnast represented Scotland at the prestigious Performance Grades British Finals last week.

And Aubrie McMillan made history for her club, Dumfries Y Gymnastics Academy, by becoming the first to compete in all five events—vault, uneven bars, beam, floor, and range and conditioning—at the national-level competition in Stoke on Trent.

She was especially delighted to come home with a sixth place finish on vault.

Praising her, head coach Steven McKinnel said: “This is an incredibly proud moment for our club.

“Her routines demonstrated both technical skill and admirable resilience. Aubrie’s vault was particularly strong, and placing sixth nationally is a huge achievement. She’s truly made the club proud.”

The teen was supported at the event by Steven and two other coaches, as well as her mum and aunt.

He added: “She’s set a shining example for our younger gymnasts that if you work hard, you can achieve your goals.

“To represent Scotland for the first time at the British Finals and finish sixth on vault—while competing across all five pieces—is something truly special.”

Meanwhile, Aubrie is already focused on her next challenge: the June Jolly competition, set to take place in Hamilton later this month.
