Apprentice Cara rides first winner
IAIN Jardine Racing apprentice jockey Cara Tuke had her first winner on Monday afternoon.
The 16-year-old, right, who grew up in Dumfries and Galloway, topped the field in the Start Your RacingTV Free Trial Now Apprentice Handicap at Redcar with 22-1, IJR trained, Giselles Izzy.
Cara did brilliantly to negotiate a path past Moostar, who was running loose after a problem at the start.
Speaking to Northern Area Point to Point, a delighted Cara said: “I’m absolutely delighted. I saw the loose horse in front and was hoping it wouldn’t come across but my horse was very tough.
“I was just hoping that nobody came in on top of her as I could feel the others tight around me, but she’s been very good.”
Cara, who only entered her first race in the middle of September, said of trainer Iain Jardine: “I’ve been with him for a while now and he’s helped me massively and I can’t thank him enough for the opportunity.
“I’m delighted to get my first winner so soon.”
The team at Hetland Hill have a number of provisional entries scheduled in the coming days.
On Friday they are in action at Newmarket and Southwell; on Saturday they head to Ayr and Newcastle; Carlisle is the destination on Sunday; and on Monday the team travel to Wolverhampton.
