Annan edge six goal Galabank thriller

ANNAN Athletic entertained Gretna 2008 at Galabank on Sunday as the ladies season returned with the start of the league cup group stage.

It was the Black and Golds who claimed a 4-2 derby victory on home turf, despite going behind early on in the game.

A bright, energetic start from the visitors saw them take the lead through Lynn.

But Athletic soon came into the game, and they found the back of the net no less than four times before the halftime whistle. Rhian Williams scored a hat-trick, while Phoebe Thorburn also grabbed a goal.

Gretna came out in the second half full of determination and fight, and they managed to claw another goal back through Brodie.

But the three goal halftime lead proved too much to overcome for the Anvils as Athletic held on for the win.

Annan now have a free weekend before returning to Galabank to face Ardrossan on August 24.

Gretna also return to action on the same date, with a home tie against Dalbeattie Star.
