Annan downed by Dalziel
ANNAN 1st XV lost out 29-7 to Dalziel at the Everholm last Saturday afternoon in West One. The last time the two 1st XV’s met down at the Everholm was in February 1998. Annan won that day 23-0, with tries from Andy Render, Billy Henderson and Gogs Carmichael. The sons of Andy and Gogs were playing in this match (Aitken and Aaron). Annan has not managed to win twice in a row this season and the trend continued as Dalziel came out of the traps fast and Annan found themselves 14-0 down. The second half started as the first finished and Dalziel moved quickly into a 21-0 lead. Annan hit back with 20 to go thanks to a Rohan Cother try, converted by Josh Whiteside. But that was as close as the home side got. Dalziel finished off the scoring with their fourth try and a late penalty. The team now travel to Strathaven tomorrow for their last league match until after the Six Nations. Eighth placed Annan need to ensure they outperform Cumnock and Greenock in their remaining matches to be playing West One rugby next season. However, the team do have the small matter of the Chisholm Cup, away to Stewartry on February 28. Elsewhere, the U13 Boys host Lanark at 2 pm on Sunday; the U17 Girls travel to Biggar with the D and G U17 Girls; and there will also be a U11 and U13 Girls Rugby Festival, 10.30 am meet.
