QUEEN of the South secured a third place finish in League One and set up a play-off semi-final against Stenhousemuir after beating Alloa Athletic 4-1 at the Indodrill Stadium last Saturday. The visitors opened the scoring on 28 minutes after winning a free-kick on the right-hand. Ben Johnstone floated the ball into the box and Brennan Dickenson beat Liam McFarlane with a powerful header. As they looked to extend their lead, Niall Rogerson saw his effort blocked before Zander MacKenzie hit the crossbar. Queens goalkeeper Jamie Sneddon made a good save to keep his side in front as half time neared. However, he was beaten a minute before the break when Kalvin Orsi slotted home. In the final 20 minutes Queens really came to life. On 72 minutes Kai Kennedy was instrumental. He passed to Nicky Clark in the box and he calmly headed home. As the home side hit back, Sneddon again made another save to deny Connor Sammon. Alloa were putting Queens under a bit of pressure but the visitors cleared. And with five minutes of the game remaining, Kennedy and Clark combined again. Kennedy did the hard work before laying it along the line for Clark who fired a low shot into the bottom corner. Two minutes later Liam Smith put the icing on the cake when Seb Mason found him to his right and the winger fired a left foot shot into the top corner.
