Aitken: Keep up the momentum
A DELIGHTED Stranraer gaffer Chris Aitken hailed his history-making side after a first derby win over old foes Queen of the South in nearly 20 years.
And now he’s challenged the Blues – who were well worth their 1-0 victory over the toothless Doonhamers – to keep the momentum up when they face Forfar Athletic in their opening League Two match on Saturday.
Aitken said: “The league starts next week, it’s our bread and butter. We’ve got to use our League Cup campaign as confidence. We’ve got to go to Forfar next week but it’ll be extremely hard, but we’ll be up for the challenge.”
The Blues recorded their historic win over Queens thanks to a close range Aaron Quigg goal, pictured below, on the hour mark.

And Aitken’s men dug deep to keep it that scoreline and frustrated the League One outfit.
Stranraer finished on six points in the League Cup group which included Championship sides Ross County and Partick Thistle.
Aitken added: “We were over the moon with the victory. The four group games have been against really good opposition and we equipped ourselves well.
“The players deserve a lot of credit. We deserved the victory over Queens, it wasn’t as if we sneaked it. To a man, everyone played their part and we showed some real quality.
“The goal was a bit of magic. Finn’s delivery was spot on and Aaron was there to tap in. I challenged him to add goals to his game because the other side of the game he’s got.
"There’s no better in the league. But he needs to add goals and if he does that he’s going to go up the leagues.”
