MID Annandale travelled down the A75 on Saturday, with some trepidation, considering their opponents, Newton Stewart, had handed out a 7-0 beating to the Lockerbie side the previous Wednesday. In this South of Scotland League fixture, however, the Mids turned in a much better performance and with two or three regulars missing they took the match to the Wigtownshire side and both Danny Carcu and Darren Monteith were unlucky with their early efforts before Thomas Crooks got on the end of a Euan Wright cross to deservedly put the Mids in front, a lead they held until half time. Some defensive frailties again surfaced at the start of the second half when Newton rattled in two quick goals, albeit, the second finding Drew Jackson a shade unlucky to deflect a goal bound effort just past his own keeper. Mids, however, regained their composure and gave as good as they got for long periods of the second period and it was only tired legs and no substitute numbers which saw them succumb to two further Newton goals to make the final score 4-1 to the home side. All in all it was a much better display from the Lockerbie side, and they will be a bit more confident before their next upcoming League match against Creetown at Castle Cary Park on Wednesday evening.
