ANNAN 2nd XV claimed a resounding 69-17 win at Violetbank against Kilmarnock in their first home encounter of the new West Division One season. The home squad was a mixture of young and experienced players and what a fine blend it turned out to be. Kilmarnock arrived with only 15 players but, despite this setback, they played well throughout — scoring three tries and a conversion. For Annan, the experience of Keith Hogg, Alan Rae and Andrew Jancey created plenty of opportunities for the backs. For the forwards, Stewart Wyllie, Murdo Bruton and Michael Carpenter all impressed. The Black and Amber second team looked strong as they scored 11 tries and seven conversions. Annan scorers were Aaron Kirkup, two tries and two conversions; Andrew Jancey, two tries; Alex Jones, two tries; Stewart Wyllie, two tries; Murdo Bruton, two tries; Ben Stewart, one try and four conversions; and Zak Stevenson scored one conversion. Elsewhere, the 1st XV were beaten 45-21 away to Carrick in West Division One. Mason Watret, James Kirby and Jonny Callaghan all scored tries, while Josh Whiteside hit three conversions.
