Support for flood victims

DUMFRIES and Galloway Council has set up a dedicated webpage for households and businesses affected by the severe flooding that took place across the region in late December.

It signposts to all the help and support available from the council and partner organisations, and will be updated regularly.

The website details grants and support available for householders and tenants, help with council tax and housing benefit, support for businesses, the availability of bulky uplifts, and flooding information along with advice.

There are also sections on the scale of the flood and what the council and its partners did and is doing to help businesses and householders.

Dumfries and Galloway Council co-leader Stephen Thompson said: “This webpage should be the starting point for anyone affected by the recent severe flooding across Dumfries and Galloway. We will be updating it and posting updates on our social media when we do.

“We have recently experienced unprecedented flooding across our region, and we acted immediately to get vital help and support to those most in need.

“From the initial emergency response to practical help, such as the provision of skips and free bulky uplifts to assist with the removal of debris and spoiled goods, to support for businesses such as business rates discount for unoccupied properties, our council and our partners continue to do whatever we can to help householders and business-owners respond to these distressing events.”

Dumfries and Galloway Council co-leader Linda Dorward added: “Those affected by this severe flood need support, but in some cases don’t know where to access it. That’s why we’ve brought access to it all together in one place.

“And we are out on the ground, speaking to people affected to see what urgent help is needed immediately. This will continue until communities and businesses are on a stronger footing.”

The dedicated webpage can be found at www.dumgal.gov.uk/Flood-Recovery-Support on the council’s main flooding page.
