Visitors moved on from Mennock Pass

POLICE have warned people to adhere to ongoing travel restrictions after they dispersed dozens of campers from a Dumfriesshire beauty spot.

The government’s ‘stay local’ rule continues to prohibit travel out of a local authority area for non-essential purposes.

But despite this, around 50 people travelled from outwith the region to Mennock Pass near Sanquhar on Saturday with the intention of camping overnight.

And officers spotted the large group whilst out on patrol and swiftly instructed them to leave the area.

They said in a statement online: “Our officers will continue to visit local beauty spots to encourage people to #StaySafe.

“Please follow the the Scottish Government guidelines as we ease out of lockdown.”
