Virtuoso violinist moves to area

A WELL-known violinist has decided to settle down in Moffat.

Christian Garrick performed in the spa town alongside his band, Budapest Café Orchestra, in 2019.

Now the virtuoso – who, over his musical career, has played with Van Morrison, the BBC Concert Orchestra and Martin Taylor – has set down his strings in the burgh.

He recently moved to the town with wife Emma and three of his five children, Lexie, Poppy and Ruairidh.

Also a recognised face on the small screen, Christian’s playing has previously featured on episodes of the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and Poldark.

From contemporary jazz to hot club swing to gypsy folk to tango to classical, his eclecticism and expertise in many fields has taken him on musical journeys with a slew of internationally renowned recording artists.

He remains the first and only jazz artist to ever be decorated with the highest honour of the Royal Academy Of Music with the Academy’s Diploma in 1994.

Christian now holds professorships at the Royal Academy, Royal College and Guildhall School of Music.

Christian and Budapest Café Orchestra are set to return in September this year to perform especially for the inaugural Eagle Festival.

For this unique event, Christian has been asked to compose a new piece of music to be premiered on Saturday September 25 at Moffat Town Hall.
