Valiant Vale go top after derby onslaught

Wilson Park welcomed a fantastic turnout from spectators for what promised to be an exciting game between two teams both unbeaten in the league so far.

The New Abbey side capitalised on defensive errors from Thistle to go three goals in front after half an hour.

Craig Kerr opened the scoring, pouncing on a goalkeeping error to fire into an empty net. Craig Kerr then doubled the lead with a close range effort.

Vale were in dreamland shortly after when Aiden Kerr rounded the onrushing keeper to hit the net from the edge of the box.

Thistle clawed a goal back through Brodie Turner. Iain Anderson did well down the left hand side and Turner slotted home the cross.

But Vale restored their three-goal cushion when Lewis McKenna made no mistake from the penalty spot.

However, Lochar pulled one back again before halftime. Liam Nish curled home a free kick to give his side a lifeline and bring an end to a turbulent 45 minutes.

The visitors staved off Thistle pressure in the opening stages of the second period before putting the game out of sight.

On loan Queens forward Jay Burns struck a thunderous effort across the keeper low into the corner to make it five and round-off the scoring.

Victory means Vale move into top spot, ahead of Creetown, on goal difference. Although, the Wigtownshire side have a game in hand which they play on Saturday.
