AFTER a long night of vote counting, David Mundell has held his Dumfriesshire seat and increased his majority in Dumfriesshire. He polled 14,999 votes, securing a majority of 4242 over his rivals. The result was finally announced at DG1 in Dumfries at 9.33 am after a count lasting 11.5 hours making it one of the last constituencies in Scotland to declare. The emotion was clear in Mr Mundell's voice as he took to the stage and thanked his team and family. He pledged to make the people's priorities "his priorities" and in a message to the SNP following their disastrous results nationally, he declared it was time to shut up about independence. And he said he was humbled by his re-election, after 19 years as an MP, noting it was "the toughest election" he's ever had to fight and during which he's knocked on 12,000 doors. Full vote results: Dominic Ashmole, Greens: 1488 Drummond Begg, Lib Dem: 2800 Daniel Coleman, Labour: 10,140 Gareth Kirk, Scottish Family Party: 208 David Kirkwood, Reform: 3822 Kim Marshall, SNP: 10,757 David Mundell, Tory : 14,999
