A STAR studded sporting line up is expected in Dumfries next week when the town hosts an international curling tournament.

BUZZING . . . Cllr Smyth, curling officer Graham Sloan, John Graham of the Ice Bowl Curling Association and Cllr Witts promote the Lely Curling Champions Tour event

Nineteen teams, including Olympic GB medallists Tom Brewster and Lauren Gray, will be taking part in the Lely Curling Champions Tour, a challenger series event of the European Tour.
For the second year in a row, it takes place at the Ice Bowl on December 18-20 and will offer prize money of £16,000, of which £6000 has been donated by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Council events champion Councillor Colin Smyth said: “The Lely Curling Champions Tour has proved so popular that more than a dozen countries will be represented in Dumfries, over the weekend before Christmas.
“The event will be a great showcase for curling and create an economic impact of more than £30,000 from competitors and officials spend on accommodation alone.”
John Graham, chairman of Dumfries Ice Bowl Curling Association added: “The competitive quality of the tournament has definitely improved, and provides an arena for some of our best home grown curlers – Heather Morton, Sophie Jackson, Zack Stewart, Fraser Kingan and Grant Hardie, to showcase their skills.”
Spectators are welcome at any time over the weekend and admittance is free.
