Top dog Gizmo busts drugs haul

A SUPER sniffing police dog has helped located £1.1 million of drugs in the region.

The cannabis was recovered at Cairnryan on Wednesday thanks to the work of spaniel Gizmo.
He was carrying out routine checks with his handler when they unearthed the drugs in a lorry at the main terminal at about 3 am that morning.
The 46-year-old male driver was been arrested and charged in connection with drug supply offences and is expected to appear at court today, Thursday.A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Tackling illegal drugs and removing them from our communities is a priority for Police Scotland and part of that is targeting the transport routes used to courier drugs.“We will continue to work to stop criminals bringing harm and misery to our communities.  “We rely on the support of the public to build intelligence on drug-related issues so that we can act on their concerns. “We would urge anyone who is aware of any information about the supply of drugs to report the matter to police on 101, or anonymously through independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
