Summer reading challenge
A SUMMER reading challenge has returned to Dumfries and Galloway and aims to celebrate the connection between music and storytelling with this year’s theme.
The ‘Read to the Beat’ challenge invites young readers to explore multiple book titles, with this year’s theme inspired by rhythm, sound and creativity.
Participants can sign up to the challenge at their local library or online, which will also provide them a collector folder, a book bag, and stickers to get them started.
From there, participants will discover new books, take part in themed activities and earn rewards leading to a certificate rewarded for completing the challenge.
Hosted by The Reading Agency, the aim of the ‘Read to the Beat’ Summer Reading Challenge 2026 is to support young minds to keep active during the summer holiday period through fun and engaging activities, and encouraging the habit of reading.
Summer reading passports can be picked up at Dumfries and Galloway Library.
