Summer of fun on the cards

A LOCAL youth activity coordinator has declared that “young people are bored in Moffat” and unveiled plans to keep them occupied over the summer holidays.

Dumfries and Galloway Council’s youth development worker for Annandale and Eskdale, Carla Grant, held a virtual, interactive whole school assembly and consultation with Moffat Academy pupils last month to find out how the local authority could help to give them a fun-filled summer.

Carla told members and attendees at a meeting of Moffat and District Community Council (MDCC) on Tuesday night: “We got to see a snapshot of what people wanted and the basics of it is that young people are bored in Moffat. They do want bigger things like the swimming pool and the shopping mall.

“This summer we are going to be doing a lot of trips; to the cinema, to Fusion, to Galloway Activity Centre, to Annan to do bouldering, so they’ll have a lot of opportunity and when we’re having these conversations with young people they’re quite excited by this opportunity – and because it’s the council it’s all free, and we would provide food as well.”

She added that promotional material about the activities and trips would be sent out “over the next few weeks”.
