A HORSE rescue centre near Gatehouse of Fleet is to shut.

The team at the 3Rs Horse Rescue Centre at Kirkclaugh this week announced its closure ‘with heavy hearts’.

In a statement on Facebook, they said: “Over the years, we have experienced unforgettable highs—witnessing broken and abandoned horses find healing, hope, and forever homes. We’ve seen miracles happen in muddy paddocks, felt the warmth of community at every fundraiser, and shared countless moments of joy and connection between humans and horses.

“But, rescue work is not without its challenges. The emotional, physical, and financial demands have taken their toll, and we’ve come to the difficult decision that it is time to close this chapter.”

Thanks were expressed to all their volunteers, donors, adopters, vets, and farriers over the years.

As operations start to wind down, the priority will remain the welfare of the animals the team are working hard to ensure each one finds a safe and loving place.

Signing off, they added: “Thank you for believing in the 3Rs. This may be the end of the road for the centre, but the legacy of rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming lives on in every life we’ve touched.”
