Silver success for Dumfries boxer

DUMFRIES boxer Dennis Broadhurst enjoyed silver success at the Felix Stamm Tournament in Poland.

The welterweight fighter, who is a member of the Doonhamers Boxing Club, made the final against the Ukraine’s Vitali Tereschuk.
And he looked very unlucky to walk away with only the silver after the fight.
The Ukrainian attempted to steal points with a flicking jab, but Dennis landed with powerful shots from both hands which had a noticeable effect on Tereschuk in the opener.
In the second, Broadhurst again commanded the centre of the ring behind a strong jab and following rear hands and although Tereschuk limited the amount of shots landed in the last, Dennis suffered an agonising split decision loss to deny him gold.
His coach Anne Armstrong said: “Among many positives Dennis can take from the tournament is that his performance improved with every bout.”
The Scottish coaching team are continuing to develop and push Dennis forward with his amateur career
with many tournaments around the world for him in the coming months. His ultimate aim if the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.
Anne said: “Dennis is training six days a week working with me one-to-one and international training as well at the Institute Of Sport every weekend.
“Dedication and commitment is why Dennis will succeed and one day make the Olympic level.”
