School case numbers low

THE number of positive covid cases in the region’s schools remains ‘low’ say education bosses.

However, they have noted an increase from April, following the full return of primaries and secondaries and easing of restrictions. In a report for councillors. it’s noted that schools continue to work with NHS Public Health and its partners to come together as a Problem Assessment Group or Incident Management Team, as required.

A spokesman said: “This has been vital in order to mitigate or minimise the impacts on our communities as a result of incidences of Covid-19 related to our schools.”

And ensuring the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff ‘remains paramount’, with work continuing to reinforce key messages about the current mitigations to control virus transmission.

Furthermore, schools continue to be supplied with lateral flow devices to support regular at-home testing for staff and secondary pupils.

Meanwhile, Sanquhar Primary reopened today after a case of coronavirus at the school.
