Robber sought after ATM theft

A WOMAN was left shaken after she was robbed at a cash machine last night.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the robbery which took place in Cotton Street, Castle Douglas at about 10.40pm on Tuesday.

A 25-year-old woman was at the ATM machine at the Coop store, when she was confronted by a man demanding money.  The woman handed over a small amount of cash and the man made off from the scene, heading towards Wallace Court.  The woman was not injured in this incident, however was shaken by what had occurred.

A description of the man has been released: he was about 6’/6’2″ tall, of thin build with a large head, small piercing eyes and pointed cheeks.  He was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up, black jogging bottoms and well worn white training shoes.

Detective Constable Thomas Dingwall, of Galloway CID, said: “Whilst this is a rare type of crime for Castle Douglas, it is a worrying one. Officers are carrying out door to door enquiries and reviewing CCTV in the immediate area. We would ask anyone who may recognise this somewhat distinctive description, or who may  have seen this man to call us on the 101 number, quoting the reference 4819 30/7.  Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous when passing information to us can do so through Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
